Spectra HE™ Pulse Burners

In 1996 our first success was the development of acoustic or pulse combustion technology. This technology represents a unique blend of two independent physical and chemical phenomena: acoustics and combustion.  Our proprietary knowledge of physics and chemistry, when applied to a flame creates sound. Sound interacts with the flame to improve mixing which reduces emissions and increases the rate of heat and mass transfer. As a result, our pulse combustion systems can offer significant operating benefits such as:

  • Self-aspiration
  • Valve-less design
  • 1:2-1:3 turndown ratio
  • Low CO and NOx emissions
  • Ability to burn liquid and gaseous fuel with the same design
  • Low maintenance.

Spectra HE™ Pulse burners can provide between 30,000 Btu/hr and 6,000,000 Btu/hr (10 kW to 2 MW). Spectra HE™ Pulse Burners operate on gaseous, liquid and solid fuels. The heat exchangers are
compact in size.

These systems can be used in pulp and paper manufacturing, pressed wood production, mineral processing, spray drying and various rotary kiln drying applications. Increased heat transfer rates can offer OEM’s of boilers and water heaters the advantage of compact heat exchangers, which in turn can be translated in less material, less weight, less installation, transportation, insurance costs.


Spectra HE™ Pulse Dryers

The majority of commercial processes are driven by the rate of heat and mass transfer. In general, drying is a bottle neck. Improving production processes – increased throughput, energy savings or cost reductions – requires improvement in mass transfer. The Spectra HE™ Pulse Dryer is a fossil fuel powered pulse dryer that can reduce energy cost and consumption and increase production. This unit can be provided as a retrofit to an existing system or we can work with OEM’s to integrate the equipment into a new system.

Depending on the application, we have been able to increase drying rates by a factor of 2.5 – 8, depending on the nature of the material, specific temperature of the application and ability of post drying equipment to absorb these increases.  These numbers were obtained by our customers and third parties.

Since the Spectra HE™ Pulse Dryers utilizes the Spectra HE™ Pulse Burner as a heat source, all of the above advantages of pulse burners are valid for pulse dryers.
